About Event

Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Trivandrum, proudly presents Dhanak - the annual cultural extravaganza. This eclectic four-day long event is held in the odd semester each year with a footfall of students from across South India and some parts of North India. With a plethora of multidisciplinary events ranging from literary, music, art and dance to visual arts and film-making, Dhanak is the perfect platform to show the world that you are the best at whatever you are the best at.

Over the years, Dhanak has been graced by illustrious personalities such as former President late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Academy Award winner Resul Pookuty, National Award winning actor Balachandra Menon and music legend K J Yesudas.

Dhanak 2016 is the 8th edition of the cultural festival and as is tradition, our events will be blended with an over-arching theme. And this time, we’re taking you on a journey to a bygone era. Gear up and get ready to encounter the music, dance, and art of our recent past. Experience the emotions, the fashion, the feel, and the fire of the second half of the 20th century. Yes. This time, we are going RETRO.

With a total prize money worth over 5 lakh INR, and with a vast number of events, Dhanak is worth the wait. Dhanak 2016 is going to be held on the dates 21st to 24th of October , so make sure you're there to showcase your talent and prove your mettle. Make sure you’re present, as we recreate a golden age. The past is never dead. Let’s go Retro!

How to reach Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology IIST, Thiruvananthapuram

Closest Airport - Trivandrum International Airport ,Closest Railway Station - Trivandrum Central Railway Station
From the Central Bus Station, Thampanoor (in front of Thiruvananthapuram Railway Station) take a bus to Vithura or Valiamala. Alight at 16th Mile Stone / ISRO Junction / Pathinaaram Kallu Stop. Follow sign boards to reach IIST campus. Last bus to Vithura from the Central Bus Station is around 9:30 p.m.
Alternatively, board a bus from Thampanoor or East Fort Bus Station (around 1 km from Thampanoor) to Nedumangadu. From Nedumangadu, frequent buses are available for ISRO junction. Auto rickshaws are also available from Nedumangadu to IIST (this would cost anywhere between Rs. 50 – 100).
It may take a little more than an hour to reach IIST from Thiruvananthapuram city under normal traffic conditions.
Bus fare would be approximately Rs.20 per person from Thampanoor to IIST.
Prepaid autos and taxis are available from the Central Railway Station (approx Rs. 300 for an auto and Rs.600 for a taxi).
Route to be followed: Thampanoor/Central Railway station or East Fort – Kowdiar – Peroorkada – Nedumangad – Karipoor - ISRO Junction – IIST.
From the Airport it would be advisable to reach East Fort or Thampanoor and then follow the information given above for buses.
Prepaid Taxis are available at the Airport and can be availed. The cost would be anywhere between Rs. 600 – Rs. 750.
